Edgartown

A Checklist of Martha’s Vineyard Beach Activities

Whether you’re setting your towel out at Lighthouse Beach/Fuller Street Beach, South Beach, State Beach, or East Beach at the Cape Poge Wildlife Refuge and Wasque Reservation, there’s no shortage of fun beach activities everyone will enjoy.

Some beaches are open to the public, while others require a residence pass or have restrictive parking, so be sure to do your research before you visit.

Fish from the shoreline. Known as surfcasting, this sport is perfect for anglers of all skill levels. Stop by Coop’s Bait & Tackle or Larry’s Tackle Shop to stock up on the necessary supplies and get advice from local anglers.
Enjoy some friendly competition by playing a game or two of volleyball at South Beach, which has nets already hung.
Walk along the shoreline looking for sea glass and Wampum. This is a popular expedition for those visiting State Beach.
Go for a swim. The waters at beaches like State Beach are calmer, perfect if you’re visiting with younger children. South Beach’s water is known for large waves, so only strong swimmers are advised to enter.
See what lives beneath the surface by snorkeling. When you set off from the beach, you can swim out as far as you’re comfortable.

1. Chesca’s Restaurant

Located right off Vineyard Square’s lobby, enjoy fresh seafood and island favorites on our front porch. Blending upscale and comfort foods, Chesca’s has a range of delicious seafood options on its menu, like grilled salmon, grilled rare tuna, and roasted Atlantic cod.

2. Atlantic Fish and Chop House

Dine on the freshest seafood, including branzino, dorado, and wild salmon at Atlantic Fish & Chophouse. You’ll be able to take in the views from the indoor and outdoor seating options while enjoying the elegant yet approachable atmosphere of this Edgartown restaurant.

3. The Seafood Shanty

For over 50 years, The Seafood Shanty has been serving up fine food and drinks. Enjoy a wide range of scrumptious seafood, like a raw bar, grilled swordfish, sesame pan-seared tuna, and even sushi.

4. The Wharf

Find out why locals and seasoned visitors return to The Wharf time and time again. Grab a beer on the pub side, or settle into a cozy booth on the restaurant side. No matter which side of the restaurant you dine on, you’ll enjoy fantastic seafood from the lunch menu or dinner menu.

5. 19 Raw Oyster Bar

If oysters are your thing, you have to stop at 19 Raw Oyster Bar. While obviously offering an amazing selection of oysters, the seafood doesn’t stop there. The menu is filled with favorites like house-made chowder, tuna carpaccio, charred octopus, and lobster roll.

6. Rockfish Edgartown

Just down the street from our hotel is Rockfish. While known for wood-fired pizza and American bites, the menu is full of delicious seafood options. Dine on fried shrimp and honey garlic sauce, pan-seared sea scallops, or grilled Atlantic swordfish. Don’t forget to pair your meal with a glass of wine or cocktail.

7. The Port Hunter

Only open seasonally, The Port Hunter is an Edgartown staple. Start your meal off with Maine mussels and an order of oysters. Select from a range of seafood entrees, including a whole fish, the catch of the day, or fish tacos. You can’t go wrong with whatever you pick from the menu.
