Despite its small size, Martha’s Vineyard is home to an incredible food scene. Whether craving cheesy pizza or looking for the perfect place to grab lunch, there’s something for everyone and every meal. The region’s culinary scene is celebrated annually during the Martha’s Vineyard Food and Wine Festival (MVFW).

This is perhaps one of the most popular events of the year, which means accommodations can fill up quickly. Before you start planning all you are going to eat and drink, reserve your room at Vineyard Square Hotel & Suites. Once that’s taken care of, it’s time to look ahead at what you can expect from this annual gathering. Keep reading to learn more!

What to Know about MVFW

While the festival usually takes place in October, the 2024 event will take place in June. The four-day gathering celebrates the island’s fishing and farming traditions, highlighting local chefs, restaurants, and wineries.

There are plenty of ways to experience the flavors of MVFW, including tastings, private dinners, chef demonstrations, and seminars. A highlight of the festival is the Grand Tastings, which showcase some of the best chefs from Martha’s Vineyard and beyond. Tickets for various events can be purchased online. All events take place rain or shine, and tickets are nonrefundable.

For more information on this year’s schedule, visit the MVFW website and check out the FAQ page.

  • Found in Chilmark, Menemsha Hills is an ideal spot to take in scenic vistas across Vineyard Sound. Home to the second-highest point on the island, you’ll be able to see for miles.
  • Aquinnah Cliffs Overlook, once called Gay Head, is one of the most visited spots for a reason. Wander the lower beach paths to see the cliffs up close. The upper tails provide views of the Elizabeth Islands and Gay Head Light.
  • Make the short journey to Lighthouse Beach to see the sailboats come in and out of the harbor. Be sure to take in the Edgartown Lighthouse before heading over to Fuller Street Beach.
  • Explore the Long Point Wildlife Refuge to see if you can spot the rare plants and wildlife that have adapted to call this dry, acidic landscape and its ponds home. Walk along the two-mile trail through the oak forest and savannah for a truly memorable experience.
