It’s okay to admit it: no amount of gifting ever feels like quite enough when it comes to showing Mom how much you care. If you’re still struggling with the perfect way to show your appreciation for all the wonderful things she does (and has done) this year, you can’t go wrong with some quality time (and Edgartown may have just the ticket). If the leading lady in your life doesn’t mind sharing the stage with spring, Edgartown’s annual Pink & Green Weekend is the perfect way to spend Mother’s Day on Martha’s Vineyard.

Take Your Pick of Savory Specials: Brunch, Cocktails, or Both

Upgrade Mother’s Day brunches of the past: just add an island! Pink & Green Weekend always has a selection of Mother’s Day brunches full of fresh island fare worth digging a fork into, with past participants including Lucky Hanks, Among the Flowers Cafe, and Détente.

If the craving for cocktails strikes during the weekend, you’ll be in good hands with our downtown selection. Pub crawls and Pink & Green cocktail competitions have sprung up in the past, so you’re guaranteed to find a glass of something unique to sip on during this special occasion.

Cash in on Shopping Deals

Consider Edgartown’s Pink & Green Weekend the starting point of the island’s busy season. After months of snow and rainy days, Mother’s Day weekend draws visitors and locals alike outdoors — and what better way to go door-to-door downtown than by taking advantage of spring shopping specials? If Mom is a shopper, she’ll be happy to visit during a weekend that’ll let her fill her suitcase at a great deal.

Show Up for Unique Events

If decking our lighthouse wasn’t indication enough, Edgartown’s Pink & Green pride really takes over the town with unique events and attractions. There have been Kentucky Derby parties, a Pink & Green themed “prom,” and even a Pink & Green dog show to keep islanders and visitors entertained all weekend long.

See Edgartown Lighthouse in Spring Style

No trip to Edgartown is complete without a stroll down Lighthouse Beach to our stoic Edgartown Lighthouse, and Christmas isn’t the only time it’s decked to dazzle a crowd. For this special occasion, the island attraction is draped in pink and green streamers — adding a festive springtime look perfect for your island-inspired Mother’s Day photo op.

Considering spending Mother’s Day on Martha’s Vineyard? Make Mom feel like the center of attention by staying in the center of all the Edgartown action. We’re a stroll away from the best of downtown Edgartown on a regular day, let alone a weekend full of festivities.

Think about it: if winter was constantly lingering on the horizon, you’d be pining for an island vacation, too. When the day comes where our Game of Thrones friends aren’t preparing for snowflakes or doom, we’d like to think they’d cash in on some well-deserved R&R with a trip to Martha’s Vineyard. If you’d like to follow in their footsteps as they plan their getaways from the threats of the icy north, we’d bet these island attractions would land on their itineraries.

Plan Your Martha’s Vineyard Trip Like a Game of Thrones Character

Aquinnah Cliffs

Jon Snow: King of Alone Time

As much as we’d expect snowbound characters to savor the summer months, can you really picture Jon Snow being a big fan of beach days? As someone who seems to prefer solitude over crowds, he’d opt for a quiet shoulder season visit with our serene hiking trails or stoic Martha’s Vineyard lighthouses (a befitting attraction for someone of the Night’s Watch). We’d recommend working in a visit to Aquinnah’s clay cliffs — they may not stand up to the awe of The Wall, but what they lack in height they certainly make up for in offshore sights. No warning horn necessary.

Tyrion Lannister: Brewery Tour or Bust

As a lover of all things libatious, Tyrion’s ideal Martha’s Vineyard trip would align with the Martha’s Vineyard Wine Festival — but he’d also feel perfectly at home with the selection at Vintage MV Wine & Spirits right here in Edgartown. Though beer flights may not be what initially lures him into Bad Martha Brewing, we wouldn’t be surprised if a sip of this handcrafted beer brewed with grape leaves turned him into a dedicated patron (or inspired a full island brewery tour). Of course, even on vacation mode, he wouldn’t be able to resist the opportunity to nurture his noggin, so he’d balance the drinking with thinking during a jaunt through one of our island museums or art galleries.

Daenerys Targaryen: Sailing Into Vacation Mode

She may be the Mother of Dragons, but we’d peg Daenerys a friend of all things scaled, feathered, or furry. It would do her some good to spend time with creatures closer to her own size — like the leggy, long-necked crew at Island Alpaca that are far more fluffy than fire-breathing. Afterward, now that she’s finally gotten her hands on some boats back home, a visit to Catboat Charters is the perfect opportunity for us to get her acquainted with sailing for fun’s sake.

Arya Stark: Adventure Awaits

A wild child like Arya Stark knows no downtime (and honestly, she probably wouldn’t have it any other way). She’s the kind of gal who’d opt for the most adventurous options Martha’s Vineyard has to offer — like an aerial tour of the island by biplane. Once she’s had her fill of adrenaline-inducing activities, she’d catch the latest showing at the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse to see what new identities the actors are donning.

Sansa Stark: Vacation in the Lap of Luxury

If anyone deserves to get away from it all, it’s Sansa. Although she’s proven to have thick skin, her trip to Martha’s Vineyard would call back to her true style: appreciating the finer things in life, like an afternoon of pampering at Sea Spa Salon. For an outdoor activity, we’d direct her to the Mytoi Gardens in Chappaquiddick — a familiarly peaceful setting for such a frequent visitor of the godswood.

Of course, if our favorite characters could pick a place to unpack their trunks, we’d hope they’d choose Edgartown. We may not have a castle by the likes of Winterfell or King’s Landing here at Vineyard Square, but we do have balconies with a view that can make anyone feel like royalty.

Make the Most Out of Martha’s Vineyard in the Fall

Will travel for food…all year long! If you’ve been satisfying your island appetite squarely on Mad Martha’s ice cream cones and summer lobster rolls, chances are you’ve missed out on a boatload of delectable dining options that were right under your nose. If you’re at a loss about where to eat on Martha’s Vineyard during an off-season visit, dig into one of these Edgartown restaurants that stay open year round.

Off-Season Eats: 9 Year-Round Edgartown Restaurants

Alchemy Bistro & Bar

Just a five-minute stroll from our doors, Alchemy Bistro & Bar has a menu simmering with a creative take on new American cuisine with a side of French and Italian inspiration. The bistro is open for dinner six nights a week (closed on Wednesdays) and shuts down for one month during the winter — though the doors reopen just in time for those Valentine’s Day dinner plans.

Edgartown Pizza

Only got eyes for pie? Head to Edgartown Pizza for a hot and cheesy slice or go for a more gourmet option (like replacing pizza sauce with ricotta or sour cream). If someone in your party isn’t up for the pizza-palooza, the menu includes an extensive list of subs, wraps, sandwiches, and even grilled items like teriyaki steak tips.

The Grill on Main

From baked codfish to linguini and lamb chops, The Grill on Main has an Italian-American entrée to entice every hungry-eyed island visitor. And with a sizzling 2-for-1 entrée special Thursdays through Saturdays,, it doubles as a prime dining location for date night.

Edgartown Diner

No matter which meal is your favorite, savor it in style with some retro flair. Edgartown Diner relives the dining days of yesteryear with an all-American menu paired with checkered floors and a ‘60s soundtrack. No matter how cold it gets, don’t let the winter’s chill sway you from trying one of the frappes or malts for a true diner experience.

Lucky Hank’s

Whether your favorite meal of the day is breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you’re sure to pick a plate that pleases at Lucky Hank’s. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the casual restaurant resides in a converted house with a menu full of comfort foods to make you feel right at home.

The Newes From America Pub

For a meal with a built-in conversation starter, bring your appetite to The Newes From America Pub and dine in one of the oldest buildings on the Vineyard. The pub opens daily and hosts weekly dinner specials ranging from meatloaf to fishermen stew, in addition to regular lunch and dinner menus with all the classics (plus a few modern spins).

Rockfish

A minute’s meander from Vineyard Square, Rockfish sports a menu of wood-fired flatbreads, American classics, and unique bites (like “duck fries” in truffle oil). Although closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, this Edgartown restaurant is fit for night out later in the week — Rockfish is also home to two full bars.

Sharky’s Cantina

Where’s a Vineyard visitor have to go to get a margarita? Sharky’s Cantina is a solid choice.. Fresh, fun, and affordable, Sharky’s is the spot for Mexican fare like chimichangas, stuffed quesadillas, and tacos alongside classics such as burgers and wings.

Square Rigger

With an entire menu section dedicated to jumbo lobsters, consider Square Rigger your one- stop shop for everything seafood during the frosty months. The restaurant remains open year-round, aside from a brief break in January, and its location within an 1800s sea captain home provides plenty of authentic ambiance for your surf n’ turf taste.

Once you’ve balanced the winter cold with a warm dish of comfort food, head to Vineyard Square for an insider’s perspective on the best winter activities to work up an appetite all over again.

Make the Most Out of Martha’s Vineyard in the Fall

For many of us, as soon as the clock strikes midnight on Thanksgiving, the turkey decor is tucked away and it’s all about the jingle bells. If your yearly holiday shopping experience looks a little more like Jingle All the Way than a Hallmark movie, don’t fret — use our Martha’s Vineyard holiday gift guide for a stress-free, no-rush season of giving.

Your Holiday Gift Guide to Shopping in Island Style

For the Leisurely Shopper: Where to Buy

No need to wait in mall lines or worry about packages being picked off your doorstep — the perfect place to handpick holiday presents during a Martha’s Vineyard visit is just a stroll away.  Shopping locally in Edgartown brings you face-to-face with jewelry stores, bookshops, clothing brands, and boutiques filled with trinkets destined for gift wrapping.

If you’d like to take shopping locally even further, plan a trip to one of our seasonal festivals or pop-up shops. Walk off that big meal and kick off the shopping season at The Vineyard Artisans Thanksgiving Weekend Festival, or catch one of the Featherstone Center for the Arts holiday gift shows that run daily through mid-December. Both options yield arrays of handmade, giftable goodies made right here on Martha’s Vineyard.

For the Let’s-Cut-To-The-Chase Shopper: What to Buy

Of course, a leisurely stroll through a craft fair or our storefronts isn’t quite as enjoyable if the clock is ticking. If it’s crunch time, skip the hunt and get straight to the treasure with this holiday gift guide of sure-to-impress items made on Martha’s Vineyard.

  • Murdick’s Fudge. Over 15 flavors await your selection at Murdick’s Fudge, and if your timing is right you may catch seasonal tastes like eggnog and peppermint.  Don’t let their name lead you astray, though — Murdick’s is home to the best fudges around, but they also have delicious popcorn and brittle up for gifting grabs.
  • Chilmark Coffee. Whether the coffee lover in your life has firsthand experience with our island’s best, or they’ve yet to sip a cup, a bag or two of these beans are sure to please around the holidays.
  • Martha’s Vineyard Chocolate. If you can’t get your hands on a box of Chilmark Chocolates (this time of year, those can be as rare as a Wonka bar golden ticket) the chocoholic in your life isn’t out of luck. Head to a local candy shop or New Moon Magic – Enchanted Chocolates in Oak Bluffs for your pick of chocolate-covered fruit, nuts, and bars.
  • Martha’s Vineyard Distilling Company. Did your friend have the best vodka martini of their life on Martha’s Vineyard? Recreate it with a bottle or some loot straight from the source — from branded glassware to oak aging barrels, Martha’s Vineyard Distilling Co. carries a great selection of swag.
  • Vineyard Bath Company. This Edgartown company has made it their mission to bottle the Martha’s Vineyard experience — and between their massive collection of lotions, salt scrubs, and soaps, it’s safe to say they’ve succeeded. You can even choose a fragrance named after your gift recipient’s favorite island town (we’ll go ahead and assume it’s Edgartown).
  • The Martha’s Vineyard Experience. Give us a break — it’s the holiday season and we can get a bit sentimental here. We aren’t pulling your leg when we say the best gifts of all are the memories we make on Martha’s Vineyard. Reminding your loved ones about the memories they’ve already created is great, but some fresh ones don’t hurt, either. If there’s a certain item they’ve yet to check off their island bucket list (like a biplane ride or a  fishing charter outing) the holidays are the perfect time to make it happen.

If you do give the gift of a Martha’s Vineyard experience (or have a feeling that your goodies will inspire a future visit), beat them to the finish line with a Vineyard Square gift certificate. After all, what better way to experience the island than from the point-of-view of Edgartown’s getaway central?
