Getting to Vineyard Square

Don’t bother reaching for those car keys — Vineyard Square Hotel & Suites is centrally located on the island of Martha’s Vineyard and convenient to reliable public transportation, so packing light and leaving your car on the mainland isn’t just easy, it’s highly recommended. Martha’s Vineyard is accessible by airplane or a 45-90 minute ferry ride. Year round Martha’s Vineyard ferry service is available from Woods Hole and seasonal ferry services are available from the Massachusetts towns of Falmouth, Hyannis, New Bedford and Nantucket, as well as from Quonset, Rhode Island.

The Steamship Authority

With year-round service, this ferry provides the most frequent daily service and brings thousands of passengers to Martha’s Vineyard every year.  Departing out of Woods Hole, MA (Cape Cod), it runs into Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs (seasonal only) with either port being only 10-15 minutes from the Vineyard Square Hotel & Suites. This is also the only ferry capable of transporting vehicles to Martha’s Vineyard. Advance vehicle reservations are required for the ferry if you are bringing your vehicle and remember to contact the hotel to reserve one of our off-site parking spaces.

Offers a seasonal, passenger only, fast ferry service to Oak Bluffs Harbor from:

  • New Bedford, MA – Multiple ferries depart daily to and from Martha’s Vineyard.  Offsite parking (with complementary shuttle service to the terminal) or convenient valet parking is available in New Bedford, as is connecting service from:
  • NJ and NY to Martha’s Vineyard Ferry – Also operated by Seastreak, this passenger only ferry runs on weekends from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day. Departing from Highlands, NJ on a Friday afternoon, stopping in Manhattan and then onward to Oak Bluffs and returning on Sunday afternoon.  This ferry arrives at the Oak Bluffs Harbor.

By Car to the Ferries

From New York: To New Bedford: Take I-95 to Providence; take I-195 East. To Falmouth and Woods Hole: Continue from New Bedford on I-195 East; take Route 25 East (I-495 South); cross over the Bourne Bridge; follow Route 28 South. To Hyannis: Continue from New Bedford on I-195 East, take Route 25 East (I-495 South) and then follow Route 6.

From Boston: Take Route 3 to the Sagamore Bridge. To Hyannis: Follow Route 6 East. To Falmouth and Woods Hole: Take Route 6 West to Buzzards Bay (Bourne), cross the Bourne Bridge, and follow Route 28 South.

By Car to Hotel

Directions from Vineyard Haven Ferry Dock to the Vineyard Square Hotel & Suites

Turn left out of ferry parking lot and continue to stop sign (past Stop&Shop). Turn right at stop sign. Continue up small hill bearing left. In 1/2 mile you will see directional sign for Edgartown (7 miles). Take that left onto the Vineyard Haven/Edgartown Rd. Follow this road for about six miles taking you right into downtown Edgartown.

As you approach the village of Edgartown, you will come to a stop sign. The Square Rigger restaurant is on your left. Continue straight at this stop sign, carefully giving right of way to traffic approaching from the left. You are now on Main St. – Continue straight for about 1 1/2 miles. You will pass the Old Whaling Church and The Dukes County Courthouse on your left.

At the corner of Main St. and North Water St., turn left (The Bank of Martha’s Vineyard is in front of you on the corner). We are two blocks up on your left hand side. Number 38 North Water St. Feel free to pull into the loading zone in front of the Inn while you check-in. We will be happy to help with your luggage, and then give you directions to one of our parking spots (if available – PLEASE NOTE: these are limited, first-come first-served, and MUST be reserved in advance) or to the town parking lot, a short drive away.

Local Bus Transportation – Vineyard Transit Authority

The local bus system is very reliable and leaves frequently from just 1 block from the Inn to all over the Island. You can purchase 1 day, 3 day or 7 day passes which allow you to hop on and off the bus as often as you like, giving you the freedom to explore the whole island without the headaches of directions, traffic and parking.
